George was born on November 13th, 1874 in Hokitika, Westland, NZ.  George's father was William Robert Blane and his mother was Honorah Foley.  His paternal grandparents were William Blane and Elizabeth Cooke; his maternal grandparents were James Foley and Catherine (Kate) Lyston. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Arthur, Elizabeth, Mary, Josephine and Catherine.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died due to natural causes or old age, myocardial degeneration 1 year, at the age of 75 on August 24th, 1950 in Napier, NZ.  He was buried on August 25th, 1950 in Parke Island Cemetery, Napier.1 1
