William Franklin was born on December 31st, 1860 in Rockingham Co, NC.1   William Franklin's father was James Ellis Roberts and his mother was Jane Moore.  His paternal grandparents were Martin Roberts and Elizabeth Gilliland. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Richard M., James Henry, Samuel Ayers, Andrew Jackson, Margaret Malinda, Sarah M., Gillie Virginia and Susan Frances.  He was the third youngest of the nine children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Walter, Ann Elizabeth and Mary Jane.  He died at the age of 71 on November 4th, 1932.  He was buried in Eden United Methodist Church Cemetery, Madison, Rockingham Co, NC.1
