Mary E. was born in 1832 in Rockingham Co, NC.1 Mary E.'s father was John R. Roberts and her mother was Jane Unknown. Her paternal grandparents were Josiah Roberts and Mary Angelia Unknown. She had six brothers and two sisters, named William D., Arsenic, James M., Martin M., Samuel, John R., Lucetta J. and Harriett. She was the oldest of the nine children.1 General Notes
