Thomas Benton was born on March 8th, 1849 in Rockingham Co, NC. Thomas Benton's father was John C. Knight and his mother was Elizabeth Roberts. His maternal grandparents were Martin Roberts and Elizabeth Gilliland. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Martin Roberts, Emory Calvin, Samuel Garrett, Elizabeth Janet, Mary Demaris Matilda, Dora and Susanna. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 87 on October 10th, 1936 in Madison, Rockingham Co, NC. He was buried on October 12th, 1936 in Riverview Cemetery, Madison, Rockingham Co, NC.General Notes
