Roy Herbert was born in 1901 in Rockingham Co, NC. Roy Herbert's father was Jim and his mother was Katherine Sewell Trent. His maternal grandparents were James Garrett Trent and Matilda Frances Roberts. He had a brother and six sisters, named Walter Herman, Bessie Alma, Lillian Matherson, Kate Earlene, Anna Henry, Lucy Ola and Mrytle Goode.
