Meriall was born on May 2nd, 1585 in Barton-On-Heath, Gloucestershire, England. Meriall's father was Sir Nicholas Overby and his mother was Mary Palmer. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Overbury Jr and Isabel Elizabeth Rutter; his maternal grandfather was Lord Giles Palmer. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Frances, Thomas, Giles, Nicholas, Walter, John, William, Margaret and Mary. He was the third oldest of the ten children.-
