Mary was born about 1592 in Quinton, Gloucestershire, England. Mary's father was Sir Nicholas Overby and her mother was Mary Palmer. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Overbury Jr and Isabel Elizabeth Rutter; her maternal grandfather was Lord Giles Palmer. She had eight brothers and a sister, named Frances, Thomas, Meriall, Giles, Nicholas, Walter, John, William and Margaret. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
