Thomas was born about 1688 and his baptism took place on August 22nd, 1688 in Albany, Rensselaer, NY.1   Thomas' father was Abraham Jans Van Alstyne and his mother was Jannetje Thomasz Mingael.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Martense Van Alstyne and Dirckje Harmense; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Jansz Mingael and Maritje Abrahams Van Deusen. He had a brother and two sisters, named Johannes, Catherine and Maritie.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Peter, Dirkje, Antje and Annatje.1
