Established his home on a farm on Crane Road in Butler, Wayne County, New York, where they resided until about 1879, when he sold the farm and moved to Nebraska. The Reverend O. Switzer, who had been pastor of the M.E. Church at Builter Center, resigned his pastorate, and with his family, accompanied the Palmers Nebraska. This group also included William's wife Betsey, his son George and adopted daughter Mary, William's sister Ann Eliza and her husband Levi Sherman.
