The emigrant ancestor of the Palmers, who were early residents of the old town of Wolcott, that is now Butler, was William Palmer, born in England. He came to America about the year 1740, in the company of his brothers Henry and Levi. It will be noticed that names given above have followed the family down through the generations. After their arrival in America, the party divided into three groups, Levi remained in Connecticut, Henry went to the far west, but subsequently returned. William migrated into New York state and settled first in the vicinity of Argyle, Washington County, and chose, as a sit for their home, an elevated spot, which took from this family the name, Palmer's Hill.
