James was born on December 22nd, 1792.1 James' father was Benjamin Fortson and his mother was Sally Head Heard. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Fortson and Rachel Winn. He had a brother named John. He was the older of the two children. He had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, and also two half-siblings of unknown gender, named Thomas, Richard F., Benjamin G., Sarah, Maud, Rachel W., Elizabeth A., Amanda N. M., Easton and Mahala.1 -
