His paternal grandparents were Armstead Farmer and Meg (Armstead Farmer); his maternal grandparents were Lewis Ballard and Mary E. Caldwell. He had five brothers and three sisters, named William D., Andy M., Willis Jackson, John B., Walter, Cannie, Mary Lou and Cora.1 -
