Joan of was born about 1188 in Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire, England.  Joan of's father was John "Soft Sword" and her mother was Clemence.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry II "FitzEmpress" Plantagenet and Eleanor d'Aquitaine et Poitou. She had eleven half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Henry III of, Richard of, Richard, Oliver, Osbert, Bartholomew, Eudes, Geoffrey, Henry, John, Philip, Eleanor of, Isabella of, Joan of, Isabel and Maud.  She died in Court of Aberconway, North Wales.  She was buried on March 30th, 1237 in Llanfaes Priory, Anglesey, Wales.

‌Joan of and Llewelyn ap were married in a religious ceremony in December 1203 in England.  They had a son and four daughters, named Dafydd ap, Angharad verch, Gwenllan verch, Margaret verch and Helen Verch.
