John was born about 1446 in Welle, Lincolnshire, England. John's father was Lionel Welles and his mother was Margaret De+ Beauchamp. His paternal grandfather was Eudo Welles and his paternal grandmother is Maude Greystoke; his maternal grandparents were John+ Beauchamp and Elizabeth+ Stourton. He had three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Richard, John+, Oliver, Eleanor, Cicely, Catherine, Edith, Mary and Margaret.
