John was born about 1510 in Eglinton, Cunninghame, Ayreshire, England. John's father was George Seton and his mother was Janet Hepburn. His paternal grandfather was George Seton and his paternal grandmother is Margaret Marion Campbell; his maternal grandparents were Patrick Hepburn and Janet Douglas. He had a brother and two sisters, named George, Mariota and Margaret. He died before 1576 in Lathrisk, Fife, Scotland.General Notes
