Strangeman was born on September 28th, 1772 in Henrico, VA. Strangeman's father was John Johnson and his mother was Lydia Hutchins. His paternal grandparents are Ashley Johnson and Nm Stanley; his maternal grandparents were Strangeman+ Hutchins and Elizabeth+ Cox. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Jonathan, Benjamin, Ashley, Lydia, Agatha and Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the seven children.
