Richard H. was born after 1756. Richard H.'s father was Henry Gaines and his mother was Ann Martha George. His paternal grandparents were William Henry Gaines and Isabella Mary Pendleton; his maternal grandparents were Richard George and Elizabeth Ann Mayo. He had two sisters named Nancy and Elizabeth.
