Richard A. was born about 1828 in Pleasant Plains, Sangamon, IL. Richard A.'s father was William B. Gaines and his mother was Mary Callahan. His paternal grandparents were Robert Gaines and Elizabeth Gaines. He had a brother and five sisters, named William E., Mildred, Cynthia Ann, Margarette M., Mary C. and Lucinda. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died before 1874.General Notes
