Rognvald was born about 1148 in Morven, Argyleshire, Scotland.  Rognvald's father was King Somerled II MacGillebride of the Isles and his mother is Ragnhild Olafsdatter of Man.  His paternal grandfather was Prince Giolla Gillebride Brighid of Argyll and his paternal grandmother is Sigurdsdottir; his maternal grandfather was King Olaf Godredsson I of Man & the Isles and his maternal grandmother is Ingebiorg Hakonsdatter of Orkney. He had four brothers named Angus, Angus, Arran and Dugall.  He died in 1207 in Kintyre, Argyleshire, Scotland.


Rognvald's family with Fonia of Moray

‌Rognvald and Fonia were married in a religious ceremony about 1185.  They had a daughter named Helen.
