Brusi was born about 0987 in Orkney Islands, Scotland.  Brusi's father was Earl Sigurd ("the Fat", "the Stout" "Digri") Hlodversson II of Orkney and his mother is Princess Anleta ("Thora Donada") MacKenneth.  His paternal grandparents are Earl Hlodver Thorfinnsson of Orkney and Princess Audna Afrika Kjarvalssdatter; his maternal grandfather was King Kenneth II of Scotland & Alba and his maternal grandmother is Princess Aelgigu of Leinster. He had a brother and two sisters, named "the Black", "the Mighty", Aelgifu and Sigurdsdottir.  He died in 1031 in Orkney Islands, Scotland.

‌Brusi and Ostrida were married in a religious ceremony about 1010 in Orkney Islands, Scotland.  They had two sons named Ragnvald and Rognvald.
