William B. was born on May 18th, 1847 in Green Co., Kentucky.1 William B.'s father was Green Berry Underwood and his mother was Mary Rachel Sprowls. His paternal grandparents were Hiram Underwood and Celia Buley. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Eli, Green Berry,Jr., Hiram Jackson, John Logan, Sarah N., Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Ersley Alley, Celia Betty and Jane. He was the oldest of the eleven children. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Alfred Thomas, Rosetta, Mattie Green, Lona Bell and Grance Ann.
