Robert Joseph was born on August 11th, 1855 in Green Co., Kentucky.1 Robert Joseph's father was Henry David Skaggs and his mother was Ruth S. Salsman. His paternal grandparents were Stephen Skaggs and Rhoda Warren. He had a brother and six sisters, named Lewis Young, Betty Alice, Virginia Ann, Mary Alice, Rhoda Ellen, Louisa Catherine and Emily Susan. He was the oldest of the eight children.
