Joseph R. was born on August 24th, 1867 in Fisty, Knott, KY.1 Joseph R.'s father was Joshua Ritchie and his mother was Nancy Hall. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Grigsby Ritchie and Kissiah Smith. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Felix, William Gladstone, Abijah, Robert Lee, Isaac Burton, Armelda, Elizabeth, Serrilda and Polly Ann. He was the oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 67 on February 28th, 1935 in Knott Co., Kentucky.1 General Notes
