John Hamilton Money McNutt 
John Hamilton Money was born in 1839 in Texas.1 John Hamilton Money's father was Robert Blaine,Major McNutt and his mother was Mary Polly Jackson. His paternal grandparents were William McNutt and Elizabeth Grigsby; his maternal grandparents are Brice Jackson and Elizabeth Unknown. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Robert Brice, John William, Unknown, Elizabeth, Nancy, Martha, Mary Elizabeth, Jane Catherine and Tabitha Tennessee. He was the youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 93 on July 14th, 1932 in Goldthwaite, Mills Co., Texas.1 General Notes

In the book, Mills County Memories (1994) on pages 345 - 346 the
re is an a rticle about Hamilton M. and Jane Harris Burrows McNutt (al
so a pictu re of them taken in 1876). It was submitted by their granddaugh
ter Ethel M aye (McNutt) Gill Craig and one section explains the name whi
ch I quote:
"At the time of his birth, the attending physician, an old friend, D
r. Jo hn Hamilton Money requested the child be named after him. Dr. Mon
ey w as a bachelor and he promised to give the child one hundred head of c
att le when he reached the age of twenty-one years, if he were named aft
er hi m, thus Hamilton was christened John Hamilton Money McNutt (and he d
id rec eive the cattle upon reaching the age of 21). However, since Hamilt
on h ad an older brother named John, this name was dropped and also in lat
er ye ars he signed the letter "M" for Money, thus he was known throu
gh li fe as Hamilton M. McNutt.
During the Civil War he was in several battles in Louisiana, Grand E'c
or e, Mansfield and was wounded at Pleasant Hill. Due to his wound, he w
as pl aced in charge of the grist mill, grinding meal for the Confedera
te solier s.
After the war he returned to ranching.
