John Robert was born about 1846 in Floyd Co., Virginia.1 John Robert's father was John Floyd Basham and his mother was Margaret Basham. His paternal grandparents were Nathaniel Basham and Elender (Ellen) Ross; his maternal grandparents were John, Jr. Basham and Frances (Franky) Meadors. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Nathan, James W., George T., Martha A., Elizabeth Frances and Ellen. He was the second youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Fleming T., Sarah C. and Annie M.. He died about 1923 in Radford, Montgomery Co., Virginia.1 General Notes
