Birta Thomas was born about 1889 in Grayson Co., Kentucky.1 Birta Thomas' father was Stephen 'Hardin' Basham and his mother was Polly Miller. His paternal grandparents were Francis F. Basham and Nancy Farmer Smith. He had two brothers and a sister, named Louis 'Frank', Jr., John William and Bertha. He had five half-brothers named Raymond, Ulva, Wilby, Lois and William.
