Walter Reed was born on September 3rd, 1899 in Raleigh County, West Virginia.1   Walter Reed's father was William Sherman Steele and his mother was Cora Taylor.  His paternal grandparents were WILLIAM French Steele and RHODA Meadows. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Charlie Hereford, Roy Crockett, Frederick French, Norman Travers, Herbert Carl, William Shirley, Edward Glen, Annie Mae, Ella Virgilee and Sadie Grace.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 50 on August 11th, 1950.1
