Kenyon came with his father and other families to LA, and writing b ack to
his sister in GA, described the journey as follows. "I now write to
inform you of the many difficulties we encountered in getting to this
part of the world.  We set out from GA on Feb 17, 1818 and reached Robert
Fluker's o n April 15th.  The weather was extremely bad, and the roads and
trails were w orse.  We were winter bound and water bound on a number of
occasions - we had to take wagons to pieces and float them over on log
rafts, we had to build s everal bridges and one flat boat.  The Indians
were murdering on all sides of us, they watched us daily, and  the only
thing that saved us was that there were several families that made the
trip with my father.  We made a formidabl e force and had a number of
guns, pistols, and tomahawks, we stopped at one p lace where nine persons
were murdered only a few days previously, we could; s ee foot-prints of
infants in blood all over the floor, it was enough to raise the
indignation of the worst of cowards."  He was the First sheriff of St
Helena Parrish from 1823 to 1827
