Sewell Alfred was born on January 17th, 1857 in Rockingham Co., Virginia.1 Sewell Alfred's father was Morgan Asbury Dean and his mother was Susannah Lurena Breeden. His maternal grandfather is Jonathan Breeden and his maternal grandmother was Nancy Meadows. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Nicholas Asbury, John Wesley, James Morgan, Daniel Thurston, Mary Frances, Nancy Ellen, Martha Segourney Catherine, Sarah Elizabeth, Virgina Ann and Lucinda Matilda. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 92 on January 14th, 1950 in Elkton, Rockingham County, Virginia.1 General Notes
