Agnes de was born about 1166 in , Dammartin-en-Goele, Seine-et-Marne, France.1   Agnes de's father was Aubrey II de Mello and her mother was Mathilda de Ponthieu.  Her paternal grandparents were Alberic I de Mello and Clementia de Dammartin-Aumale; her maternal grandparents were Renaud II Of CLERMONT-EN-BEAUVAISIS and Clemence Montbéliard. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Renaud, Simon II de, Julia de, Juliane De, Clemence de and Aélis de.  She is the third oldest of the seven children.
