Aélis de was born about 1175 in , Dammartin-en-Goele, Seine-et-Marne, France.1   Aélis de's father was Aubrey II de Mello and her mother was Mathilda de Ponthieu.  Her paternal grandparents were Alberic I de Mello and Clementia de Dammartin-Aumale; her maternal grandparents were Renaud II Of CLERMONT-EN-BEAUVAISIS and Clemence Montbéliard. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Renaud, Simon II de, Julia de, Agnes de, Juliane De and Clemence de.  She is the youngest of the seven children.
