Johan Jacob was born in Tulpehocken, Berks County, Pennsylvania.1   Johan Jacob's father was Philip Herber and his mother is Anna Elizabetha Kauffmann.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Adam Herper and Eva Catharina Faller; his maternal grandfather was Nickel Kauffmann. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Nikolaus, Johann Philipp, Eva Elisabetha, Eva Catharina and Margaret.  He died on November 2nd, 1826 in Pendleton County, Virginia/Pendleton County, WV.2

‌Johan Jacob and Margaret were married in a religious ceremony in 1773 in Pendleton County, (West) Virginia.3   They had six sons and eight daughters, named John Henry, John Adam, Jacob, Nicholas, Moses, Leonard, Ann Elizabeth, Catherine Barbara, Mary, Sarah Margaret, Elizabeth Christina, Barbara, Aria and Leah.
