Joanna was born on February 8th, 1846 in Cannon, TN. Joanna's father was John Porter Gannon and her mother was Elizabeth Hayes. Her paternal grandparents were George Gannon and Joanna Whitt. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Alfred J., William Carroll, John Quincy, James Beacham, Martha Ann, Frances T. and Mary Jane. She is the fourth oldest of the eight children. She had two half-brothers, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender named Isaac, Samuel L. and Baby.-
