Ellen Martha (Nellie) was born about 1769 in , , Anar.cty. Md.. Ellen Martha (Nellie)'s father was Basil GAITHER and her mother was Margaret WATKINS. Her paternal grandfather was Edward GAITHER and her paternal grandmother is Eleanor DAVIS; her maternal grandparents were Nicholas WATKINS and Ariana WORTHINGTON. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Nicholas Watkins, Basil, Walter, Cassaway, Gassaway, Walter, Nathan, Nelly, Betsey, Nathan and Martha. She was the oldest of the twelve children.
