His paternal grandparents were Robert "The Magnificent" de Normandie and Herleve de Mortaigne; his maternal grandparents were Baudouin and Alix Capet. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Richard de, William II, Henry I, UNKNOWN, Gundred de, Margaret de, Agatha Matilda de, Constance de, Alice De and Anna de.
