Abraham was born on October 11th, 1796 in ,Hardy, Virginia, USA.1 Abraham's father was John Shoaf and his mother was Rachel Elizabeth Plum. His paternal grandfather was John Shofe; his maternal grandparents were John Plum and Rachel Temple. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Jacob, John, Henry, Joseph, Katherine, Rachael, Nancy, Catherine, Elizabeth and Mary (Polly). He was the oldest of the eleven children.
