NJ, married Sarah Van Tassel (Van Texal ) Granddaughter of Jan Van Tassel, one of the earliest settlers of New Netherlands..whose wife, Catoneras was the daughter of Wyandanch, Grand Sachem of the Montauk tribe of east Long Island.
In 1710, moved his family to Hunterdon Co. NJ... became senior deacon of Dutch Reformed Church called Six Mile Run.
In Tarrytown they were members of the Sleepy Hollow Dutch Reformed Church---also known as Phillipsburgh Church. Records of the baptism of some of their children are found there. (Publications of the Yonkers, NY Historical Society 1901.] The records of the Church at Sleepy Hollow show Barent and Sara as sponsors at several baptisms in 1704 and 1706. He was a Tax Collector for Westchester Co, NY. (New York Colonial Documents, Vol.II I, p. 659.
Barent's name last appears in Tarrytown in 1709. By 1710 they had settled on the Raritan River in Hunterdon, (now Somerset Co) New Jersey.
A Dutch Reformed Church was established there in 1710, "Baerent de Wit" was elected Senior Deacon. (Presbyterian Historical Society Publications, Vol.I, pp 120-121) The church was originally called Six Mile Run and located near Somerville. On Oct. 13, 1711 Baerent De Wit was named Senior Elder. {Publications of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, 1912, pp. 36,31,36; 1914, pp. 175 -177}
Barent DeWitt was still living in 1723 when he was again a ruling elder of Six Mile Run Church.
It is not known when or where Barent and his wife Sara died, but it was probably at their old home near Somerville. There are no gravestones nor is there any will.

Below is information I have on Barent DeWitt and wife Sarah Van Tassel. There are baptisms for five children and they are also related to have had sons Andreas b. 1695 and Titus b. c. 1715. Titus must have been born prior to 1715 when as "Tytus Dewiedt" he witnessed the Will of Peter Van Este of Raritan, Somerset County, New Jersey dated 10 Feb 1727/8 unless there was another Titus DeWitt. I am also including the grandchildren below of Barent DeWitt and Sarah Van Tassel. Many in the past have speculated as to the identity of some of these DeWitts and which families they belong to.
Other than definite baptism records some of these children are conjecture and speculation. Has anyone or is anyone doing extensive research on these families to identify the several DeWitts with the name Peter, Paulus, Isaac, etc. I would appreciate responses from anyone researching these
families or if there are baptisms found in some of the Dutch Reformed Churches that I am missing. I have baptism dates for some below, but not sure of which church as they were recorded in the past by other researchers.
