Jacob Barentsen was born in 1628 in Grootholdt, Zunderlandt, Holland.1 Jacob Barentsen's father was Barent Dewitt. His paternal grandparents were John (Cornelis) Dewitt and Jacomina Van Barestijne. He was an only child. He died before 1704 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY.1 General Notes

Jacob Barentsen DeWitt came to New Amsterdam prior to 1649 as in that year he was a member of the New York dutch Church. Apparently his first wife, Dorthea Folkerts died in 1658. He returned to Holland and married Tryntje Dutcher Feb 3, 1660 ..had son there in Grootholdt. Then returned to NY.
