John (Cornelis) was born on April 30th, 1545 in Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherlands.1 John (Cornelis)'s father was Fransz DeWitt and his mother was Lidewij Van Beveren. His paternal grandparents were Cornelis Dewitt and Beatrix Van Slingeland. He was an only child. He died at the age of 76 on April 3rd, 1622 in Dordrecht, Zuid Holland, Netherlands.1 General Notes

Since I'm still fairly new at this game, I know nothing of Jan and Cornelius DeWitt of fame. Are they famous or infamous? Can you point me to any books on the subject?
I have found Nicholas and Tjatje in several sources as the parents of Tjerck Claessen (these may have been copied from each other), but I currently have three different names suggested as grandparents for Tjerck Claessen. I think I'll leave that older part of the tree alone till I have cleared up some of the newer stuff. Guess I'll detach Jan and Jacomina from my ancestor tree for the time being.

2)Charles Wallace DeWitt shows Tjerck's grandparents as Cornelius Fransz
DeWitt (b: April 30, 1545, d: 1622) and Johanna Heymans. He claims to have
traced the DeWitts back to Jan die Witte "whom we know was alive in 1295
in Dortrecht, Holland". die Witte looks like a German name to me, so if this
information is correct, maybe the DeWitts originated in Germany.
3)Also Anne DeWitt sent me a report that shows Tjerck's father as Nicholaes, Nicholaes' father (Tjerck's grandfather) as Andries (no dates, but notes that he was the 1st DeWitt with a career in Law), Andries' father as Cornelius (with the same years and wife as the Cornelius in paragraph 2 above) and so on...
