Hugh Le was born in 1197 in Ryhall, Rutland, England.1 Hugh Le's father was Thomas Despenser and his mother was Rohese De Foix. His paternal grandparents were Thurston Despencer and Lucia; his maternal grandparents were Roger-Bernard I "The Fat" Comte De Foix and Cecily Trencavel. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Galfridus (Geoffrey) Le, Thomas Le, Rohese Le and Muriel Le. He was the youngest of the five children.
