Ralph was born in 1364 in of Castle Raby, Durham, England and his baptism took place in 61 1425.1 Ralph's father was John Neville and his mother was Maud De Percy. His paternal grandparents were Ralph Neville and Alice De Audley; his maternal grandparents were Henry De Percy and Idonea De Clifford. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Joan De and Eleanor De. He was the second youngest of the four children.
