John De was born about 1249 in Bernard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.1   John De's father was John De Baliol and his mother was Dervorgilla De Galloway.  His paternal grandparents were Hugh de of Bywell Balliol and Cecily De La Fontaine; his maternal grandparents were Alan De Galloway and Margaret Huntingdon. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Hugh De, Alexander De, Alan De, William De, Cecilia, Eleanor De, Mary De, Ada De, Euplemia De and Margaret De.  He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.  He died in Bailleul, Nord, France.  He was buried in St. Waast, Bailleul, Nord, France.1 1
