John De was born about 1212 in Bernard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.1   John De's father was Hugh de of Bywell Balliol and his mother was Cecily De La Fontaine.  His paternal grandparents were Eustace De Baliol Lord Gainford and Agnes De Percy; his maternal grandparents were Aleaume Fontaine and Laurette De Saint Valerie. He had four brothers and a sister, named Eustace De Barnard III Lord Of, Bernard, Joscelin, Hugh and Ada de.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died on October 27th, 1268 in Bernard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.  He was buried in New Abbey, Galloway, Wigtownshire, Scotland.1 1

‌John De and Dervorgilla were married in a religious ceremony in 1233 in Of, Galloway, Wigtownshire, Scotland.1   They had five sons and six daughters, named Hugh De, Alexander De, John De, Alan De, William De, Cecilia, Eleanor De, Mary De, Ada De, Euplemia De and Margaret De.
