Reginald was born about 1245 in Inverugi, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  Reginald's father was Reginald le Cheyne and his mother was ? Comyn.  His paternal grandfather was Bernard le Chen; his maternal grandparents were John I "the Red" Comyn and Amabilia (Eva). He had a brother named Henry.  He was the older of the two children.  He died after July 17th, 1296.

‌Reginald and Mary were married in a religious ceremony before May 1269.1   They had two sons and a daughter, named Reginald, Freskin (Frances) and Christian.
