John R. Purvis 
John R. was born in June 1841 in Martin County, NC. John R.'s father was George Warren Purvis and his mother was Ethalinda Manning. His paternal grandparents were Roderick Purvis and Charlotte Taylor; his maternal grandparents were Reubin Manning and Sarah (Sallie) Staton. He had three sisters named Mary Frances, Ethalinda and Sarah G.. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died after 1900.-
