His paternal grandparents were Henry Loderick Teel and Martha Young; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Griffin and Martha Fritz. He had six brothers and five sisters, named John C., Thomas Jefferson, Nathan Franklin, Richard Columbus, George Dallas, Thomas Benjamin, Sarah Louise, Marha Ann Frances, Mary M., Seana J. and Emily July M.. He was the third oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 40 on March 27th, 1887 in Coosa Co., AL.
