"After several weeks of intense suffering, John W. Spradley passed away
at his home near the Southern depot at 1:15 o'clock Sunday morning, aged
37 years. Mr. Spradley bore his afflictions with wonderful fortitude and
resignations, and while he desired so much to live, yet he said he was
ready to go. He moved into our midst last January and since that time has
made many friends here who deeply regret his demise and feel a keen
sorrow and profound sympathy for the bereaved wife and six small children
which he leaves behind. Deceased was a quiet law-abiding citizen and
generally liked by all who knew him. His remains were carried to Sterrett
where they were interred Monday; the funeral services were conducted by
Rev. S. S. Crumpton. The Advocate joins their many friends in extending
its sympathy and condolence to bereaved one's, which includes a brother
and two sisters, nephews and nieces, and pray that they will be ready to
