Hugh Elgin was born on February 20th, 1881 in Sterrett, Shelby Co., AL.1 Hugh Elgin's father was James Bryant Spradley and his mother was Henrietta Lieucya Johnson. His paternal grandparents were John William Spradley and Nancy Blackman. He had six brothers and nine sisters, named William Melvin Bryant, John Franklin, Ellis Harrison, James Dixon, Albert Almouth, Charles, Nancy Lee, Sweeie Henretta, Louisa Josephine, Essie Mae, Bertha Elizabeth, Virginia, Flora, Allie May and Ellie. He was the oldest of the sixteen children. He died at the age of 76 on February 18th, 1958 in Akron, Summit Co., OH.1 -
