John Thomas was born on August 31st, 1862 in AL.1 John Thomas' father was William James Mapes and his mother was Mary Francis Durell. His maternal grandparents were John Durell and Dorcas Spradley. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William Robert, Bryant Curtis, Malcum Lester, James Lyton, Dorcas Luella and Mary Irene. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 84 on April 2nd, 1947 in AL. He was buried in Rocky Mount Cemetery, Crenshaw Co., AL.1 1 -
