William James Mapes - Our roster is based on the Service Records of the
17th Alabama which I assume you have seen. However, I have also included
names and information from 41 other sources. As I indicated yesterday, I
had not seen the name William James Mapes of Company C. I checked the
Service Records at the library this morning, and William James Mapes was
not listed. However, I did find his name in what I call the Master Index
which only contains name, rank, and regiment. Do you have any other
information or source for him other than the cemetery record?
‌William James and Mary Francis were married in a religious ceremony on November 17th, 1859 in Butler Co., AL.1 They had five sons and two daughters, named John Thomas, William Robert, Bryant Curtis, Malcum Lester, James Lyton, Dorcas Luella and Mary Irene.
